Former George W. Bush White House press secretary Ari Fleischer celebrated on Monday after President Donald Trump attacked Tucker Carlson for opposing further U.S. involvement in Israel’s conflict with Iran.
After Carlson wrote that Trump was “complicit” in Israel’s attacks against Iran, the president tore into his former ally on Truth Social.
“Somebody please explain to kooky Tucker Carlson that, ‘IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!'” wrote Trump. “AMERICA FIRST means many GREAT things, including the fact that, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
While Carlson received support from many Republicans – including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who defended the former Fox News host from Trump’s attack – Trump’s separation from Carlson was celebrated by Fleischer, who previously served as a major advocate of Bush’s invasion of Iraq.
“The dam has burst on Tucker,” reacted Fleischer. “People who didn’t want to tangle with him now know he’s a paper tiger without a podium. His entire career was marked by lurching from one cause to the other with no ideological consistency. He’s a carnival barker and a clown. Drop Tucker.”
During the Iraq War, Fleischer promoted debunked claims about Saddam Hussein having weapons of mass destruction, which were used to justify the U.S. invasion.
“The problem with guns that are hidden is you can’t see their smoke,” he said at the time. “We know for a fact that there are weapons there.”
