‘You Haven’t Seen a Single Deal?’ Mark Halperin Grills JD Vance Over Trump Family Getting ‘Wealthier’
Vice President JD Vance is once again claiming not to have seen any signs of grifting in President Donald Trump’s White House.
Vance, 42, was grilled on the subject by journalist Mark Halperin for Halperin’s 2WAY TONIGHT just a couple of days after he got a similar questioning from CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil during a Saturday town hall.
The vice president repeatedly pleaded ignorance, despite numerous reports that the president has made billions from crypto while in office and that his sons have raked in the cash since their dad’s second term began.
“I think they were already a very, very wealthy family and I think it’s a family, I think that’s a family that suffered extraordinary financial consequences for him being president the first time,” Vance claimed.
“And I think if you look at the long sweep of the first Trump administration, obviously that four-year period in between and the second Trump administration, I just don’t understand the argument that somehow politics has made Donald Trump or his family much better off,” he insisted.
Vance then added:
Now, I’ve never seen any evidence that anybody’s selling access to the president or certainly selling access to me.
But like if there’s a credible accusation there, I guarantee you the president of United States is going to be the first person in line to say that’s ridiculous and despicable and I am too.
So I do think that what happens sometimes with this stuff, Mark, is that people convolute and conflate two separate things. I just, it’s laughable to me the idea that Donald Trump has somehow been enriched by political office.
He nearly had his life destroyed by his his quest to become president and obviously do a lot of good for the American people. I think there’s a separate question about do a lot of people in Washington try to get rich from politics? Absolutely. Is it gross
Yes. and our job is to make sure that they don’t get richer by having access to the president of the United States. But I I just don’t think that’s a concern for this president.
The vice president stuck with his position as Halperin pressed the issue.
“I know I’m going to take heat for not spending the rest of the interview on this, but I’m just going to ask you, I’m just going to ask you one more,” the journalist said.
“I know you don’t spend all your time scrutinizing the Trump family deals, but are you saying to the extent you’ve seen information about them, forget the kind of scales of justice, you say they suffered a lot, so now they’re making it back,” Halperin asked.
“No, I wouldn’t say that,” Vance said before claiming, “What I would say is I don’t think there’s evidence that the Trump family has become enriched by politics.”
The president has earned about $1.4 billion from crypto since taking office in 2025.
Vance insisted the Trump family has “sacrificed a lot for politics.”
