Trump Raves About ‘Hardworking’ Hispanics: ‘You’re Not Supposed to Generalize, But I Do…’
President Donald Trump said he doesn’t care if it’s a cliche because it’s a nice thing to say and it’s true: Hispanics are very “hardworking.”
The president praised the “countless Hispanic patriots” who have helped make America great during a Wednesday event at the White House. The event was in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which interestingly runs from mid-September to mid-October, and included hundreds of Latino business and community leaders from around the country.
Trump said he had nothing but “love” for Hispanics in his speech, before joking about some of their traits.
“You’re not supposed to generalize, but I do,” Trump said. “You’re hardworking people, you’re smart as hell, you’re energetic — sometimes too energetic, I might add.”
That drew a pretty big laugh from the crowd.
“Right? Sean knows that,” Trump continued, referring to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who was in the crowd and is married to Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy. “A little bit too energetic.”
That little moment came as Trump talked about the mutual love affair between himself and the 62 million Hispanics in America. Trump said the press gets it dead wrong and doesn’t understand most Hispanic and Latino Americans support his crackdown on illegal immigration, including his effort to build a wall along the Southern border.
He also gave himself a pat on the back for getting a record-setting slice of the Hispanic vote in 2024 when compared to past Republican presidents. That boast comes a week after The New York Times’ chief political analyst Nate Cohn wrote crumbling Hispanic support for the GOP could lead to a “possible Democratic tsunami” in the midterms.
Trump talked about other topics as well at the start of his speech, like the U.S. withdrawing the last remaining troops from Iraq. He said the press will likely say he “rambled for 20 minutes about unrelated topics to Hispanic subjects,” but “it’s actually very related, because it’s good for our country.”
