Another month, another name change?
President Donald Trump is ready to rechristen another geographic location after he declared Lake Ontario would now be called Lake America.
Trump is now debating whether to give the Strait of Hormuz a more MAGA-fied name: the “TRUMP STRAIT.”
The president floated the name swap in a Wednesday post on Truth Social.
“Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT???” Trump asked, complete with three question marks. “Like America itself, it would be ‘hotter’ than ever before! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
The post came after the whole Lake Ontario-Lake America hubbub, during which Trump renamed one of the Great Lakes after a trade deal between the U.S. and Canada collapsed at the last minute.
Trump signed an executive order last week to make the change official on government systems.
It immediately riled up many liberals, while a ton of MAGA fans hailed the move by saying it was elite trolling from Trump.
Trump kept the jabs at Canada coming last weekend by posting a video of machine gun-wielding Canada geese — which the maker of the video dubbed “Donald Ducks” — patrolling the lake on his behalf.
He followed the geese video up a bit later with an AI clip of himself kicking over a sign reading “Lake Ontario” and planting a Lake America sign in its place.
And on Sunday, Trump declared he wanted the USA to reject all products coming from north of the border — unless those Canadian companies are willing to relocate to the States.
“I don’t want Canadian cars, I don’t want Canadian parts, I don’t want Canadian anything,” Trump fumed.
That same day, Ontario Premier Doug Ford told ABC News “no one” would follow Trump’s lead and refer to it as Lake America.
Google and Apple have changed the name on their map apps, but a new poll from Reuters/Ipsos on Tuesday showed the re-dubbing of Lake Ontario isn’t that popular: only 14% of Americans dig the name change, according to the poll.
As for the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said on Tuesday the U.S. was pummeling Iranian targets near the vital shipping area. He then warned Iran the “biggest attack of them all” was looming, if the country dared retaliate against the States.
