Tafoya Dithers on Fox News When Pressed On If She Wants Trump to Campaign for Her
That wasn’t exactly an enthusiastic invitation.
Minnesota Senate candidate Michele Tafoya danced around answering whether she would like to have President Donald Trump visit her state and help her campaign during a Wednesday interview on Fox News. America Reports anchor Sandra Smith asked the sports reporter-turned-anchor about it towards the end of her interview — but she didn’t get a straight answer.
“There’s a potential President Trump visit to Minnesota,” Smith said. “Would that help or hurt things for you? Do you welcome him?”
“Listen, uh, I don’t know anything about his schedule. I’m certainly not, uh, in charge of his schedule,” Tafoya said.
She continued:
What I am looking for is to bring people together in this campaign, whether they voted for Trump, whether they voted for Kamala Harris, or whether they didn’t vote at all because they felt disenfranchised. That is the ultimate endorsement for me, is that the voters on Nov. 3, all Minnesotans coming together to say, “We need change here in Minnesota.” And I’m ready to provide that change.
Smith seemed a bit surprised by the non-answer.
“But would he help your case in your race, if he were to visit and endorse?” she followed up.
“Look again, I think for some people it might, and for some people it might not,” Tafoya said.
That exchange comes as Tafoya is locked in a tight Senate race against Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan (D), with the Real Clear Politics average giving Flanagan a +2 edge.
And things appear to be trending in Tafoya’s direction. Earlier on Wednesday, NBC News chief data analyst Steve Kornacki reported the “tide” is turning against Flanagan because many voters are livid with a $9 billion fraud scheme happening on Gov. Tim Walz’s (D) watch — and they’re now looking to punish Flanagan for it at the ballot box.
Trump, meanwhile, has been traveling around the country and holding rallies in an attempt to boost GOP support heading into the midterms. He has made stops in Alabama, Texas, Nebraska, and Ohio over the past few weeks, among others, while declaring the Republicans are going to shock the Dems and pollsters when they “shove it up their a**” in November.
