With just 19 days to go until the Nov. 3 midterm elections, voters say they’re hungry for “substantial change” — while some are looking for “complete and total upheaval,” according to a new Associated Press-NORC poll.
The survey of 1,119 adults was done between Oct. 8 and Oct. 12 and shows about half of those polled want to see a change in how the country is run.
The latest poll comes amid consistently dismal approval ratings for President Donald Trump, whose administration has been beset by scandal, soaring prices, and dissatisfaction with the war in Iran.
It’s not just Democrats who say they want change.
Nearly half of Republicans, or 45%, said they are hoping for “substantial change” in the midterms while 13% chose the “complete and total upheaval” option, the poll found.
By comparison, 47% of Dems want substantial change while 50% of that group is looking for upheaval.
And even though Republicans are looking for a change, no one seems to love what the Democrats are selling, according to the AP:
Overall, about 4 in 10 voters have a “very” or “somewhat” favorable view of the Democrats, while about half view the party unfavorably. That’s roughly similar to views of the GOP, although about 6 in 10 voters view the Republicans unfavorably.
Independent voters are not enthused about Republicans however, with two-thirds of that group holding a negative view of the GOP while 4 in 10 look upon the Democrats with negativity, the poll found.
The poll had a margin of error of 3.9 percent.
