‘Just Wrong!’ Joy Reid Blasts Bakari Sellers for Saying Democrats ‘Won’t Be Wasting Money’ on Florida Senate Nominee

Former cable news star Joy Reid vented that she was not a fan of CNN political analyst Bakari Sellers saying he was happy Democrats won’t be “wasting money” in Florida on an unwinnable Senate race now, after democratic socialist Angie Nixon (D) upset Alexander Vindman in the state’s democratic primary last month.

She griped on the Tuesday episode of the Reid This Reid That podcast that Sellers had an outdated mindset which underestimated Nixon’s shot at winning in November. Reid also complained she was tired of Black pundits like Sellers and the Democratic establishment not boosting Black female politicians on the left.

“He knows politics, but I disagree with him on this one. Number one, it was not on-tone for where the people are,” Reid said. “I think for a lot of traditional Democrats, this rise in DSA-style leftists candidates is unnerving. And they’re not adjusting themselves to it. They’re still old school and want these moderate candidates, especially in the South, and they think that’s the only thing that can win.”

Her remarks were in response to Sellers — who was a Democratic representative for South Carolina from 2006 to ’14 — saying the Dems would be wasting their time and dough on Nixon.

“[I have a] blunt message for Democrats: we won’t be wasting money in Florida now,” Sellers said during a recent podcast interview. “We were going to be spending tons of money on a Senate seat we were not going to win in Vindman, instead of spending money in North Carolina and Ohio, and maybe even Iowa — senate seats we can win. And now you’re going to see that money not go to Florida, it’s going to go to the places that are necessary, that we have a fighting chance.”

Reid said that was bogus logic, considering Nixon beat Vindman, despite a 16:1 fundraising disadvantage. She added the Dems always look for the “most moderate, Republican-y” candidates to run in the South, but the times have changed.

“That is not the way it works anymore. This sister has momentum,” Reid said. “There’s something happening in Florida around her. And also, she’s a Black woman! And Black women are sick of this sh*t. Black women want support from our people and our party when we run for office. So I think he was just wrong.”
