Here’s What Was Said Between Trump and Mamdani at Gracie Mansion, According to a Lip Reader

President Donald Trump was apparently even more complimentary of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani during a brief exchange when they met Monday than their public comments showed.

A day before Trump’s big speech at the United Nation’s General Assembly, he met with Mamdani at Gracie Mansion to discuss issues affecting New Yorkers. Similar to their first meeting at the White House earlier this year, Trump offered glowing for the Mamdani and said he had the potential to be a “great” mayor.

At one point during the meeting, the two men shook hands shared some words away from the microphone. According to a report from the New York Post, Trump offered Mamdani more words of encouragement. The report read:

“What I will say, we’ll look after you, but as I say, you’re doing great,” Trump said, expert lip reader Jeremy Freeman told The Post.

“I’ll look after you, you look after the New Yorkers,” the president said. “And we can both make it work. I wanna support you, help me. Come with me to the White House – see how I work.”

Trump’s meetings have not been received well by members of the MAGA base who have repeatedly attacked Mamdani. Right-wing NY radio host Sid Rosenberg, a friend of the president, called the meetings “grotesque.” Trump ally Laura Loomer, known for her inflammatory anti-Muslim remarks, called Mamdani an “Islamic jihadist” while adding that she was “pissed” about this week’s meeting.

The meeting also came after a volley of attacks hurled by the president, leading many to believe their budding relationship had some to an abrupt end.
