‘He Wants to Torture Them!’ James Carville Claims Trump Wants Republicans to ‘Lose Big’ in Midterms

Here’s an interesting political take: James Carville thinks President Donald Trump is intentionally trying to tank the 2026 midterms to screw over the Republican Party.

The veteran Democratic strategist admitted it sounds wacky at first, but Carville said in a Tuesday clip posted by his Politics War Room podcast it is the only logical answer for some of the things Trump has recently said.

“Trump says people shouldn’t worry about AI, just go full speed ahead, he says that the troops killed in Iran can’t get certain benefits because we hadn’t declared war,” Carville vented. “The only answer that I can come up with that explains the current behavior of Donald Trump is simply this: he wants the Republicans to lose. He hates them. He wants to torture them.”

Carville continued, “He thinks that he saved them, he taught them how to win, they turned their back on him and he’s going to teach them a lesson.”

He seemed to be referring to Trump pushing hard for AI data centers, with Trump arguing they are goldmines which any community should be begging to get “if they want to be successful and rich.”

Trump going to bat for data centers comes as they have been one of the few things most Democrats and Republicans agree on — they don’t want them in their neighborhoods.

CNN data guru Harry Enten in August pointed to a Fox News survey which found 76% of Democrats and 60% of Republicans said they oppose building data centers near them, leading Enten to dub the issue “electoral poison.”

Trump warned last week if Democrats like James Talarico (D) win their Senate bids, he will be the “last Republican president and our country will live in hell!”

He has also tried to pump up the first-ever Republican midterm convention kicking off this week in Dallas.

Trump — who is scheduled to speak both on Wednesday and Thursday at the event — has dubbed it a “truly Historic Event” and a “RALLY like none other.”

Carville scoffed at the convention, though, saying “no one” he has talked to believes it’s a good idea.

“It sounds insane, that you’d have a president who wants his political party to lose big,” he added. “But I can’t think of another explanation that really answers as many questions as this one does.”
