‘Enough of This!’ Fox News Host Calls for Mitch McConnell To Get Back to Work ASAP or Quit

Fox News contributor Joe Concha vented he’s tired of waiting for Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to reappear — the veteran lawmaker needs to get back to Washington, D.C. ASAP or quit.

“I’ll say it, if he does not come back in September, he needs to step down,” Concha declared Saturday while co-hosting The Big Weekend Show. “Enough of this already!”

He continued, “How many months has it been since we’ve even heard from him directly? I don’t want to see proof of life photos from a hospital bed anymore. He needs to get in front of a microphone and prove that he can do this job. And if he can’t, he needs to step aside. Period.”

Concha’s reaction comes after McConnell has been conspicuously absent from Congress for nearly three months. McConnell last voted on June 11 and was hospitalized three days later, but little was known until a month later, when the 84-year-old posted a picture of himself holding up a newspaper in a hospital bed.

“My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion. I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages, but I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital while receiving excellent care over the past several weeks, I’ve also had to deal with a mild case of pneumonia,” McConnell wrote at the time.

Still, few details have emerged since then, beyond McConnell leaving the hospital in early August and planning to work remotely while he recovered.

Concha’s “show up or quit” ultimatum came just minutes after Rep. James Comer (R-KY) came on the show to discuss McConnell’s status, a few days after Comer indicated he expected McConnell to return soon.

But he did not sound like a guy who would bet his life savings on it when Fox News correspondent Lucas Tomlinson asked for more details. Comer said he had not spoken to McConnell since he was hospitalized, and was instead projecting his return based on what he had heard from McConnell’s staff.

“They fully expect him to be back in the Senate in September… I certainly hope to see him in the Senate in the next few weeks,” Comer said. “And if he’s not, there’ll be a reason why and the Senator will be able explain that to the American people. But hopefully he’ll back in two weeks.”

Tomlinson followed up by asking Comer if he had “some concern” about McConnell coming back. Comer doubled down on what McConnell’s staff told him.

“I sure hope that’s an accurate statement — that’s what the staff told me, Comer continued. “I have worked very closely with them over the last nine and a half years, and they have never once lied to me, so I have confidence in that.”
