CNN Data Guru Says Democrats ‘Despise Their Own Leadership’: Schumer Is the ‘Least Popular Dem Senate Leader Ever’

The good news for Democrats heading into the midterms: President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers are getting bashed in the polls. The bad news? Their own voters hate them.

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten explained the Dems are facing a stiff challenge in November because liberal voters are absolutely fed up with party leaders like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), whom he said is historically unpopular.

“Democrats, on their own leaders, they don’t like their own leaders! I dare say they despise their own leaders!” Enten yelped on Wednesday morning.

Enten said this is a “big difference” from 2018, when Dems were similarly trying to win back control of the House and Senate. He pointed out a new CNN poll found the net approval rating for party leaders among Democratic voters was -12 points currently, compared to +19 in ’18. Enten put up two big downward thumbs to signal how disgusted Dem voters are with their party.

“What a different world that we are in right now…they are 31 points south of the border,” Enten added.

He said Exhibit A when it comes to the Dem mess is Schumer’s popularity, or lack thereof. After the veteran liberal had a +28 net approval rating in ’18 and a +53 net approval in 2020, that has now crashed to -5 among Dem voters, Enten noted.

“These are no bueno, no good numbers, and this is among Democrats!” he said. “Democrats hate Chuck Schumer.”

Enten continued, explaining polls going back to 1985 do not show a Dem leader as disliked as Schumer among his own party.

“There is no historical precedent for this!” Enten said.  [Schumer is] the least popular Dem Senate leader ever.”

He said the ugly polling suggests it’s a coin flip on whether Schumer will survive as the top Senate Democrat for much longer.

Watch above.
