AOC Laughs When Asked If She’d Date a Republican, But Dishes a Straight Answer

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is single and ready to mingle… well, unless you’re a Republican. Probably.

The liberal lawmaker busted out laughing on Tuesday when TMZ reporter Charlie Cotton approached her on Capitol Hill and asked, “Would you ever date a conservative?”

His question instantly cracked AOC up.

“Is that anything you would ever entertain?” he pressed.

“I have to say it’s uh, probably not,” Ocasio-Cortez said after gathering herself. Her answer made her start loudly laughing again.

“Don’t date across the aisle?” Cotton followed up. She then gave him a meatier answer.

“No, no foul to people who do,” AOC said. “And of course, how you define that is very different from person to person, right? But I think a lot of politics sometimes, at least for me, is about values, and being aligned in values I think is tremendously important.”

AOC dished on her dating preferences after her love life has been in the news lately, following her August announcement she was freezing her eggs. A few days afterward, TMZ reported she had broken up with her longtime fiancé.

Ocasio-Cortez later said she had been hit with a lot of “negativity” for her decision to freeze her eggs, but she wasn’t going to back down from the haters.

“I was born a woman, period,” she said on Instagram. “And I have no control over that, and I wouldn’t want to change that. And the way I feel is, any negativity or judgement that I would receive at any point is negativity that I would receive for being a woman, whether I shared this information or not. So I might as well help others.”

She told TMZ on Tuesday she was “very concerned” for years about having a child while holding public office, in large part the cost of “basic things” like childcare is so pricey. Ocasio-Cortez suggested she was now more open to juggling her political career and a family than she was before, though.
