AOC Jumps to the Front of the Democratic 2028 Nominees on Betting Markets – Leapfrogs Jon Ossoff and Gavin Newsom

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is now the favorite to be the 2028 Democratic presidential nominee after she jumped ahead of Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on prediction markets this weekend.

AOC surged past Ossoff on Kalshi on Sunday, where the NYC congresswoman has a 21% shot to be the Dem nominee in two years; if you bet $100 on her today and she ends up winning, you’d get a $451 payout. Ossoff has an 18% shot on Kalshi and Newsom has a 14% chance, while over on Polymarket AOC is being given a 22% shot at winning; both Ossoff and the California gov are tied at 15% on that platform.

The jump for Ocasio-Cortez comes after she has been in the news a lot lately, between her announcing she was freezing her eggs and her declaration “Woke 1 was crazy.” 

She made the statement during an ABC interview in which she said people and politicians should be given a pass for supporting ideas like defunding the police, abolishing prisons, and even canceling Thanksgiving. Ocasio-Cortez said the Covid-19 lockdowns made everyone a bit kooky and willing to humor extreme ideas.

“During this time, and especially during Covid, there was a huge opening of the Overton window… and I think the doors were really opened in trying to entertain any and every policy that was going to get us to a better place,” she said.”And I actually think the discussions that were had in that time were quite fruitful.”

Ocasio-Cortez added, “During lockdown, of course, rhetoric in that time is not rhetoric we would use today.”

Still, it’s worth mentioning she said it was time to have a “real conversation” about abolishing prisons before the pandemic.

At any rate, the hype has been building around AOC as a potential Dem nominee in 2028 for the past few weeks. Democratic strategist Jenna Arnold told MS NOW on Sunday she thought it was a great idea, in large part because Ocasio-Cortez is so “transparently authentic” she would really connect with American voters.

Joe Rogan seems skeptical of that claim, though, after he said on his Friday podcast he wanted to hear AOC explain how she got swept up by “Woke 1.” Rogan said he knew defunding the police was a terrible idea immediately, so he would like to hear Ocasio-Cortez explain her pivot.
