‘Terrible!’ Trump Rips Mamdani and AOC Over 9/11 Ceremony Clip Which Has Gone Viral in MAGA-World

President Donald Trump called out New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Sunday over a clip showing them laughing at the 9/11 memorial ceremony — two days after the liberal politicians were caught on camera seeming to smile and laugh with each other while names of those slaughtered in the terrorist attack were being read aloud.

“When you see that video of AOC and Mamdani laughing at the 9/11 ceremony in New York, what were your thoughts?” a female reporter asked Trump before he departed Ireland.

“I think it’s terrible. It’s not a place to be laughing, especially in that case. I thought it was terrible,” Trump said. “The fact that they were laughing together in a very important part of the ceremony was inappropriate.”

Trump’s denouncement followed Mamdani and AOC going viral on Friday, after cameras captured the pair smiling and laughing together at the 25th anniversary ceremony of the World Trade Center attack; their chummy interaction looked to critics especially disrespectful because it coincided with victims names being read aloud and right after the camera showed a man leaning against the memorial waterfall and weeping.

They were both immediately slammed by many on the Right for the dreadful display, including by several prominent GOP lawmakers

“How the hell do you laugh while the names of those murdered on 9/11 are being read aloud?” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) posted on X.

And Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) posted a screenshot of Mamdani and Ocasio-Cortez smiling alongside one another.

“If laughing at Ground Zero while names are being read during the 25th anniversary of 9/11 is your thing, perhaps public service isn’t your calling,” she said.

But others said the live camera shot misrepresented what actually happened.

Michael Ragusa, a former aide to ex-NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, rushed to their defense and claimed the videos did not tell the real story.

“The videos of @NYCMayor and @AOC laughing are not true,” he posted on X. “I was standing next to them the whole time. The camera just caught her greeting him hello. Multiple other politicians were laughing and joking behind me. Republicans and Democrats.”

And CNN later reported, “extended footage of the same camera appears to show Mamdani looking stoic before the greeting, and both of them returned to neutral expressions after the exchange.” The report also noted others like ex-NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani and ex-First Lady Michelle Obama were seen smiling at the ceremony… just not at the same time victims were being honored.
