MS NOW President Rebecca Kutler
The gang at MS NOW has had a good time over the past week. The White House press ban has them glowing with self-importance. The usual insufferable presence of the press egos has become compounded as a result, and being that this is the gang from MS NOW, it drifts into the realm of the absurd.
It is always a treat when those in the media try to insist on the opposite of reality. This tendency extends beyond basic news reporting, as they love to blow this smoke during interviews, talking about themselves. Thus, we get MS NOW president Rebecca Kutler discussing her network in glowing, albeit fractured language.
She describes the type of coverage MS NOW provides on election nights and segues into how varied the views are on her network. It is enough to produce audible eye rolls.
“Michael Steele is a big part of our election night [coverage],” Kutler told Wired on a recent podcast. “He was chairman of the Republican National Committee. So we have a broad range of views. But I think they all fall under that pro-democracy banner.”
So…Michael Steele. That is all she can offer. Look, to start, if you are going to insist MS NOW has a “broad” landscape of opinions, you need to provide more than a solitary example. Further, that name cannot be one in lockstep with the rest of the herd seen on camera.
Pointing out Steele as some sort of variation to your channel’s positions is laughable. You can place him right in the midst of all the other names seen at MS NOW. Not only can she not accurately say things are broad, by referencing Steele Kutler is hard pressed to even show there is a range at all.
Dredging up the man’s resume is the only way to make this claim by Kutler. Michael Steele was, yes, the Former Republican Party head. That was some 15 years ago, and he quickly scuttled his support. Since being voted out, he has been entrenched at Kutler’s network, and his views and commentary are indistinguishable from any other talking head over there.
Steele is the embodiment of the mindset seen in the wave of Never-Trump figures who have emerged over the past decade. These people paint themselves as the brave voices in the conservative wilderness who want to preserve the integrity of the Right.
Steele declared once, “I get asked all the time, why are you still a Republican? I say, well, I’m kind of a Motel 6 Republican. Someone’s got to keep the lights on. And I’m standing there on the front porch, and I keep replacing the light bulb because these bastards keep coming by, shooting it out.”
This is pure farce. Like his network cohort, the other former Republican figure, Nicolle Wallace, his claims are defied by his commentary. He and Wallace, and most of the other NT figures bellowing in the wilderness, are exposed by one simple question.
As they claim to be holding the ground of true conservatism (at least at one time), they need to answer this: When was the last time you supported a conservative candidate for office?
It is in uniform fashion that these avowed “true conservatives” support Democrats, or at least come out in opposition to Republican figures. When have we seen these folks touting a candidate with an agenda that matches their claimed positions?
Practically never. They consistently say we need to vote in opposition to the party in order to oust, or at least counter, President Trump and other Republicans. The fight is never within the party, calling to primary those they oppose and promoting a conservative candidate. It is strictly a vote-Dem message.
Which makes Steele nothing more than a carbon copy of any other figure seen at MS NOW. Rebecca Kutler can claim she oversees a broad array of opinions at her network, when the truth is my radar range has a more expansive latitude.
