‘Very Disturbing!’ James Carville Claims Pete Hegseth is Acting ‘Exactly Like a Traitor’

Democratic strategist James Carville issued an extraordinary broadside against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, claiming he is “acting exactly like a traitor would act” while repeatedly stressing that he was not actually accusing the Pentagon chief of treason.

Carville said on his Politicon podcast that the question was raised by a “very knowledgeable” friend who recently asked him whether he believed Hegseth was a traitor.

“Let me say very clearly, I do not think that Pete Hegseth is a traitor, in the sense that he took money and is doing whatever,” Carville said. “But I got to thinking further and my defense of him, I think he’s too f*cking stupid to be a traitor.”

The longtime Democratic operative said the conversation nevertheless prompted him to consider what Russian President Vladimir Putin or Chinese President Xi Jinping would want from a U.S. defense secretary if they “controlled” one.

“And I came to a very disturbing conclusion that I want to share with you,” Carville said. “I’m not saying that Pete Hegseth is a traitor, but if Xi and Putin controlled the Secretary of Defense, they’d have him do exactly what the f*ck Pete Hegseth is doing right now.”

Carville proceeded to run down a list of ways that handlers might implement a traitor in the ranks, accusing Hegseth of already having achieved the hypothetical objectives.

He claimed Hegseth of damaging morale among senior military officers and deploying American forces on missions he dismissed as “bullsh*t stuff that doesn’t affect us.”

“[He deployed forces in] the Arabian Sea, not the South China Sea, not the Baltic, not the Arctic. Okay. F*ck around and go in circles in the Arabian Sea. Well, mission accomplished,” Carville said.

The strategist also said he would leave ordinary sailors “floating around the middle of the motherf*cking ocean eating stale rations, exhausted and not even tell them why they’re there.”

“Well, God damn he did that too,” he jabbed.

Carville argued that an official did not need be an “actual traitor” to “have the effect of what a traitor would have.”

“You don’t have to be Benedict Arnold,” he said. “You can just be stupid enough to do what the enemies of the United States want to do.”

Carville concluded by again drawing a distinction between accusing Hegseth of treason and accusing him of behaving as an enemy might want.

Addressing Hegseth directly, he said: “So, I want to be clear, I’m not calling you a traitor, but what I am saying, you’re doing exactly what a traitor would do in your position.”

“We are on, I don’t know, it’s Defcon 1 or Defcon 5 I forget which f*cking one it was, but whatever it is,” he concluded. “We are on high, high alert.”
