Trump Blasts ‘Entitled’ Canada as ‘Most Difficult’ and ‘Unreasonable’ Trade Partner

President Donald Trump tore into Canada as “entitled” and the “most difficult and unreasonable” country to negotiate with as he escalated his increasingly bitter trade fight with the nation’s northern neighbor.

“Canada has been Ripping Off the U.S.A. for decades. They have been charging our Farmers 400% Tariffs, and more. They have driven many wonderful U.S. companies out of business. For 10 years they wouldn’t certify Gulfstream Jets, until I got involved. They wanted 100% of the market for Gulfstream’s Canadian competitor,” Trump wrote Tuesday on Truth Social.

“I deal with many countries, and Canada is easily the most difficult and unreasonable. They feel entitled, but they are not a State, and will be entitled no longer!” he added.

The outburst came after trade negotiations between Washington and Ottawa collapsed when Canada pulled out of trade negotiations late Friday, shortly before a U.S.-imposed deadline that would trigger a 50% tariff on nearly $20 billion worth of Canadian imports.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that his government had “worked intensively and in good faith” toward reaching a new agreement, but that U.S. negotiators had ultimately chosen to “ask too much and offer too little.” U.S. officials accused Canada of bringing last-minute changes.

In the days since the president has unloaded on Ottawa in a series of rhetorical attacks.

Earlier Tuesday the president floated another provocative move against Canada, threatening to rename Lake Ontario to “Lake America” since “we don’t expect to doing much business with Ontario any longer.”

On Monday, Trump threatened to impose 50% tariffs on “all Cars, Trucks, both large and small, Automotive Parts, and Steel” imported from Canada beginning January 1, 2027, declaring: “WE DON’T NEED CANADA, THEY NEED US!”
