Bill O’Reilly tore into President Donald Trump’s Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin over his department’s failure to explain why ICE agents detained a man who was left hospitalized after a confrontation in California.

The conservative commentator used his No Spin News podcast Wednesday to demand answers over the case of 40-year-old Ricardo Gonzalez, who was detained last week by federal immigration agents in Long Beach.

Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson and the man’s family identified him as a U.S. citizen but federal officials have yet to do so.

“Unfortunately, the Department of Homeland Security doesn’t say anything. And this is what’s wrong with Markwayne Mullins,” O’Reilly said. “See, I think [Border czar Tom] Homan, who is the face of ICE, is a good man, and an effective man. Mullins, no.”

Gonzalez, a former Long Beach city employee, was filmed handcuffed and pinned face-down during the Friday encounter. His family said agents knocked him from his e-bike with an unmarked vehicle and used a Taser on him before he was detained.

Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson said Gonzalez suffered a broken arm and other injuries before being taken to hospital. The Department of Homeland Security has not publicly explained why agents confronted or detained Gonzalez.

O’Reilly incorrectly described Gonzalez as having suffered a broken leg but focused his criticism on the absence of an explanation from Mullin’s department.

“This should have been out. Is he a U.S. Citizen or not? What did he do to be confronted by ICE agents? You don’t just sit on it, Markwayne. This hurts your organization, the federal government, the Trump administration, and every American’s confidence,” O’Reilly said.

“Boy, I mean, come on, this isn’t hard. What do you have?” he added.

Mullin, a former Republican senator from Oklahoma, has led DHS since March after being confirmed as Trump’s second Homeland Security secretary. His sprawling department oversees ICE and the administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement operation.

The Long Beach Police Department said its officers were not involved in the immigration operation and arrived after the confrontation, eventually removing Gonzalez’s handcuffs and taking him for medical treatment.
