Ted Cruz Recalls Trump’s Mid-Meeting ‘Technicolor’ Meltdown After Musk Tweet That He Was in Epstein Files

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) recalled watching President Donald Trump erupt in anger inside the Oval Office after being handed Elon Musk’s explosive social media post claiming his name appeared in the Jeffrey Epstein files.

The Republican told PBD Podcast host Patrick Bet-David on Wednesday that he was meeting with Trump to push a school choice provision when the president was handed a printout of Musk’s post, abruptly derailing their discussion.

“And in the middle of it, that is when Elon Musk tweeted that Trump was on the Epstein list,” Cruz said. “And so Trump, now, he’s not on his phone anymore nearly as much, so what happens when something gets tweeted is they print it out, [aide] Natalie [Harp] comes in, prints it on a piece of paper, and hands it to him.”

“And he literally reads that tweet and I’m sitting in the Oval and his knuckles turn white,” the senator continued.

“You also don’t know the tweet yet?” Bet-David asked.

“I don’t know what it is yet. I mean, he shows it to us,” Cruz said.

“It happens that second?” the host pressed.

“They hand it to him that second,” the senator confirmed. “And he was so pissed. I joked I learned some curse words I didn’t even know.”

“And I will say our school choice meeting went off the rails that, like, we were done talking about school choice, and Trump had some technicolor views to say about Elon,” Cruz laughed.

Musk had been one of Trump’s most prominent supporters during the 2024 election and subsequently worked closely with his administration through the Department of Government Efficiency.

But their alliance spectacularly collapsed after Musk left government in May 2025 and began attacking Trump’s signature spending legislation. Trump threatened Musk’s government contracts as the pair traded increasingly personal attacks.

At the height of the feud, Musk claimed on X that Trump appeared in unreleased files connected to Epstein, the notorious convicted sex offender, and alleged that was why they had not been made public.

Musk later deleted the post.

Cruz said he was relieved the relationship has since improved, describing himself as a friend of Musk.

“It was not good for America to have the two of them battling,” he said, recalling the Oval Office episode as “a moment I will never forget” and “a hand grenade thrown in the middle of everything.”
