Notorious Fake Congressman Jack Kimble Pitched Lake Ontario Name Change Before Trump’s Second Term Even Began

The notorious satire account of fake Congressman “Jack Kimble” apparently pitched changing the name of Lake Ontario before President Donald Trump even started his second term.

The account, which recently caught CNN unawares with a post about Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) health scare and absence from Congress, resulting in an on-air apology, posted on X about changing the name of the Great Lake on Jan. 7, 2025 — nearly three weeks before Trump assumed office.

“President Trump’s second term is off to a GREAT start,” according to the Jan. 7 post. “I’ll be introducing legislation ASAP to officially change the name of the Lake Ontario to its rightful name, Lake America! Let’s make the Great Lakes great again!”

Liberal clipper Aaron Rupar resurfaced the Jan. 7, 2025 Kimble post on Friday.

The account, which describes itself in its bio as “Republican Representing CA’s 54th Dist. & co-sponsor of Poe’s Law,” has 133,000 followers.

The revelation was reminiscent of The Late Show host Stephen Colbert once claiming he’d first thought of renaming the Gulf of Mexico and claiming Trump “steals all of my ideas.”

Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to officially rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America” amid an ongoing trade war, as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney vowed this week to match punishing American tariffs of 50% on American goods “dollar-for-dollar.”

After Trump’s order was signed, Carney took the high road, writing on X, “The name of Lake Ontario derives from the Wendat word « Ontari’io », which means « the lake is beautiful, the lake is great ».

“This name dates back more than 400 years, well before the Canadian Confederation and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America,” Carney wrote.

“We know that the United States is changing. Their trade relations, their foreign policy, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadian women and men also know that things must be called by their name, and this lake is called Lake Ontario – today and forever.”

The renaming has prompted ridicule from the left and praise from MAGA.
