Nancy Mace Claims Lindsay Clancy’s ‘Pink Mob’ of Supporters Wouldn’t Be ‘Anywhere Near Her’ If She Was Black

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) claimed the women rallying behind Lindsay Clancy would abandon her if she were Black, accusing the “left” of being “inherently racist” as a Massachusetts jury remains deadlocked in the closely watched case.

The South Carolina Republican made the charge on Wednesday while speaking to TMZ DC journalist Jacob Wasserman about the hundreds of supporters who have gathered outside the Plymouth courthouse, many wearing pink, during Clancy’s murder trial.

Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse, has admitted killing her three children – Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months – in January 2023, but has pleaded not guilty. Her defense argues she cannot be held criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time.

“Oh, nobody would be supporting her if she were Black,” Mace said.

Pressed on the claim, Mace doubled down: “Liberal white women aren’t going to support a Black woman who murdered her kids.”

Asked why she believed those same women would not support a Black defendant in identical circumstances, Mace replied: “I think that the left is inherently racist. That’s what I think.”

Clancy’s case has attracted intense public attention and an unusually visible contingent of supporters. Hundreds of women have gathered outside the courthouse in pink shirts, with organizers framing their demonstrations around mental health, postpartum illness and what Clancy’s lawyers describe as failures in her psychiatric treatment. A wave of support has also been expressed online.

Mace rejected that framing, arguing that mental illness should not excuse the killings.

“This culture of blaming the government, blaming the hospital system, blaming anybody but yourself for your decisions, we can, I think, have a discussion about mental health, but that doesn’t excuse murder,” she said. “I mean, she murdered her children.”

She continued: “And look, I mean if you murder someone out of cold blood like that, yeah, you’re crazy. You’re insane. You’re mental. But that doesn’t mean everybody who’s insane who murders should walk free. Looks like she’s going to walk free because of this ‘pink mob.’ Basically, they’re just, you know, it’s their ‘F you’ to whatever. I think it says a lot about our culture, and it’s a sad statement on where we are.”

Mace pointed to an unnamed case involving a Black woman in New York as evidence of what she described as a racial double standard: “So where was the liberal white woman mob for her? They weren’t anywhere near her.”

A 12-person jury remains deadlocked after five days of deliberations. Possible verdicts include first- or second-degree murder, manslaughter, not guilty, or not guilty by reason of insanity.
