The much ballyhooed documentary promising ominous “revelations” about a closeted U.S. senator, which was then revealed to be Lindsey Graham, was greeted Thursday with a big fat, “This all you got?” type of response from a host of political talking heads.
Influencers on all sides of the political spectrum were less than impressed with the 33-minute film, in which three male escorts discuss in explicit detail their alleged encounters with Graham, who died in July at age 71.
The document, titled The CLOSETocracy, was shared by The Young Turks and included “firsthand accounts from three men who allege paid sexual encounters with the late Sen. Lindsey Graham” and “examines the contrast between his alleged private conduct and his longstanding political opposition to LGBTQ+ rights,” according to a press release put out by The Young Turks.
But critics were quick to point out the film wasn’t a total shock — and questioned how it was a true “October surprise” 12 days ahead of the midterms when the subject of the explosive documentary was dead.
“Imagine thinking this is some sort of massive scoop,” wrote Sean Davis, co-founder of The Federalist. “How embarrassing.”
Ron Filipkowski of the MeidasTouch Network practically yawned in response to the film about the dead politician, writing, “If someone thinks that Lindsey Graham being gay was somehow going to have an impact on the 2026 elections, that is probably someone you don’t want to listen to about elections.
“Anyone got anything on a Republican senator who is still alive,” he added.
Others lamented the documentary had sucked up oxygen on the media landscape — and pulled focus from Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s (R) heavily criticized attack ad on Democratic challenger Amy Acton, which had been dominating headlines before the documentary dropped.
Here are other reactions to the supposed Graham bombshell:
