DHS Gleefully Parades Milo Yiannopoulos Mugshot and Reveals Why ICE Came Calling

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) gleefully paraded far right activist Milo Yiannopoulos’ mugshot Friday as it revealed new details behind his arrest by immigration authorities, saying he overstayed his visa and ignored warnings then failed to appear at an immigration hearing.

Yiannopoulos, who is a British national and former Breitbart editor, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana on Thursday.

TMZ first reported his arrest, but the circumstances surrounding it were initially unclear. DHS soon filled in the blanks, posting a disheveled looking Yiannopoulos in custody and dropping new details in reply to the outlet’s scoop.

“On August 27, ICE arrested Milo Yiannopoulos, an illegal alien from the United Kingdom, at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) in Kenner, Louisiana,” the department said in a post on its official X account. “Yiannopoulos legally entered the country on May 14, 2019, through New York City, New York. He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws.”

The department said an immigration judge issued Yiannopoulos a final order of removal on July 22 after he failed to attend his immigration hearing.

“He will remain in ICE custody pending removal,” DHS said.

The Trump administration then used the arrest to promote its self-deportation program, declaring: “Being in detention is a choice.”

“The United States is offering illegal aliens $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport now,” DHS added. “We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.”

Yiannopoulos has spent years moving through the orbit of prominent figures on the American right. He worked as an unpaid intern for former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) in 2022 and later served as Kanye West’s chief of staff, having previously worked on the rapper’s failed presidential campaign.

Trump loyalist Laura Loomer, a longtime adversary of both Yiannopoulos and Greene, quickly celebrated the arrest and claimed she had previously reported him to federal authorities.

She also seized on his former association with Greene to demand a Justice Department investigation into the ex-congresswoman, accusing her of “hiring and harboring” while alleging he worked with Greene to “sabotage” President Donald Trump.
