Awestruck Child’s Viral Reaction to Artemis II Launch Captivates Social Media — And Even Gets NASA Boss’ Attention
One kid’s unscripted reply to a CNN reporter asking about NASA’s Artemis II launch has raked in millions of views and going massively viral after he perfectly summed up the excitement of the historic day.
The boy attended Wednesday’s launch at Kennedy Space Center in Florida with a GoPro camera strapped to his NASA cap, after traveling to witness the first human-crewed mission to the moon in more than 50 years.
As he stood waiting, a CNN reporter approached him to ask: “Why do you want to be here? Why do you love space? Why do you love being a part of history?”
“We’re going back to the frickin’ moon, that’s why!” he exclaimed in reply.
The moment spread quickly online, becoming a defining clip of the day’s coverage.
The clip even got the attention of NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, who promised the kid “a bag of NASA gear.”
Oh this kid is definitely getting a bag of NASA gear.

Artemis II launched shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, marking the first time astronauts have been sent toward the moon since Apollo 17 in 1972. The four-person crew consists of three Americans and one Canadian and will travel roughly 685,000 miles over a 10-day mission to orbit the moon before returning to Earth.
The launch proceeded largely as planned, despite a late-stage technical issue, which engineers resolved before the launch window opened, clearing the mission for liftoff.
