‘You’re Jealous!’ Piers Morgan Savages Ed Sheeran’s Cousin for Calling Singer a ‘Snake’ in Fiery Interview

Piers Morgan accused Ed Sheeran’s estranged cousin of being consumed by jealousy over the pop superstar in a spectacularly testy interview that ended with the host asking his guest whether he simply had a problem with the singer because he is ginger.

Jethro Sheeran, a musician who performs as Alonestar, appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored Friday after publicly branding his famous cousin a “snake” and “coward” amid a bitter family dispute, piling on to air personal grievances as the star weathers an unusually turbulent moment.

The singer faced backlash after rapper Macklemore was dropped from the remaining US dates of his Loop Tour following pro-Palestinian speech at MetLife Stadium, with Sheeran saying the decision was imposed by venues and the tour promoter rather than made by him. Several other support acts subsequently quit the tour in solidarity with Macklemore, while Sheeran later addressed the controversy onstage in tears, calling the suffering in Gaza “catastrophic, unjustifiable, and disproportionate.”

After Jethro Sheeran railed against his cousin, and the interview neared its end, Morgan stopped merely refereeing the feud and began openly questioning whether Jethro’s campaign against the “Shape of You” singer was really driven by resentment.

“Why don’t you let it go, Jethro? Seriously, man. Let it go,” Morgan told him.

“Ed went on to global superstardom. Just let it go, mate,” he continued as Jethro protested. “You’re racked up with bitterness.”

Morgan then went considerably further, goading: “I think you’re very jealous of him. I think you’d love to be Ed Sheeran. And you’re not. You’re Jethro Sheeran.”

“I’m very happy being who I am,” Jethro replied.

“Yeah? You don’t sound happy,” Morgan shot back.

Jethro responded by turning the questioning onto Morgan, invoking the broadcaster’s own recent dispute involving his threat of legal action against Earl Spencer, brother of the late Princess Diana, over photographs of his sister that Spencer linked to the journalist in a new book. Morgan has denied any connection to the images.

That prompted Morgan to ask why, given his obvious disdain for the host’s methods, Jethro had agreed to appear on his show.

“Because you’ve got a massive platform. You’re the biggest platform in the world,” Jethro admitted.

“So, you’re putting your principles to one side for the platform,” Morgan replied.

“Yes, I am. Yeah,” came the reply.

“You know what? I admire the honesty,” Morgan said.

Jethro maintained that his attacks on Ed were not motivated by envy, arguing: “I’m happy for his success. I don’t hate. I just think he’s a coward because of what he’s done and he’s done some bad things, but I’m not jealous.”

He added: “I swear that to God and my daughter’s life. Like, I am not jealous of Ed.”

Morgan remained totally unconvinced: “I think you think about him all the time. I think that’s the problem. You can’t let it go. You’re just wrapped up with bitterness about him. I think you’re jealous of him. Keep talking about your massive catalog, but it’s been incredibly unsuccessful by comparison.”

“Have you got any money or not?” Morgan jabbed.

“Yeah. Do you want me to buy you a pint or something?” Jethro replied.

Morgan pressed him on his net worth, prompting Jethro to accuse him of setting up an inevitable comparison with his vastly wealthier cousin.

The host then accused Jethro of repeatedly throwing his cousin “under a bus” while denying jealousy and pointed out the contradiction in attacking his show as clickbait while simultaneously appearing on it.

“There is no better way for you to show the world how you are totally opposed to the way I go about my business with my show for clickbait than coming on my show for clickbait me,” Morgan said.

Then came Morgan’s final theory. Showing Jethro an old photograph, he asked: “Is it because he’s got ginger hair?”

Stunned, Jethro shot back: “No, not at all. Why would I hate him with ginger hair? My family’s got ginger hair. It’s like I’m Irish. Like, no.”

As the outro music began rolling, Jethro turned the question back on Morgan: “Why do you not like him?”

“I do like him,” Morgan said. “I don’t think he’s been very well advised, but I like him personally, we’ll have to agree to disagree about that.”
