‘It Hurts’: Yiannopoulos Says He Didn’t Realize the ‘Brutality’ of Being Arrested In America
Far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos said he never realized the “brutality” of being arrested in the United States following a time in ICE custody before being deported to the United Kingdom.
Yiannopoulos, who currently works for controversial rapper Kanye “Ye” West, joined Piers Morgan on Piers Morgan Uncensored this week for his first interview since being taken into ICE custody on Thursday in Louisiana and deported.
He claimed he was treated like an MS-13 gang member after being taken into custody at a Louisiana airport.
“I didn’t really understand the physical reality of how institutionalized the brutality is in America. The manner in which they arrest you. They put you in manacles, your hands, your feet, chained together. Everybody is arrested like a MS-13 gang member. And it hurts a lot more than it looks like on television,” he said.
Yiannopoulos said that warnings from immigration officials about his work visa had gone to past addresses. He also argued he had no need for the visa as he is married to an American. The right-wing provocateur said he applied for a Green Card in 2017 shortly after his marriage, but he claimed it was cancelled without him being informed.
“I’m a pretty organized and together person when I’m not being silly on Twitter. And I’m married to an American. There’s no reason I would take a risk like this. I didn’t need to overstay a visa. There were dozens of companies who could have sponsored me, and I’m married to an American,” he said.
Yiannopoulos claimed he was denied access to a phone and a nurse while being moved from detention centers. He also claimed he saw no one else in custody at these centers and that two officers walked off the job in protest after seeing him in custody.
Yiannopoulos described himself as more frightened than he’s ever been in his life while in ICE custody. He said the ordeal has made him “very ashamed” of ever having supported President Donald Trump.
He said:
To think that the promise and hope and joy and the anticipation of Trump 2016 could, sort of, over the course of 10 years, collapse into this ugly, warmongering, whole mentally ill heap of crazy – with some of the most unstable and lunatic people, seemingly directing the President’s actions! If I had any clue that anything remotely like this was even possible, I would never have got involved in supporting Trump in the first place and I’m very ashamed that I did.
