Whopping Number of People Want Fauci to Be Given ‘Immunity’ on Top of Presidential Pardon, Smerc Poll Reveals

A viewer poll put out by CNN’s Michael Smerconish found that nearly 90% of people want Dr. Anthony Fauci to receive “immunity” on top of his presidential pardon.

Smerconish read the results from his poll in the final segment of his show on Saturday. He asked viewers, “Should the Senate grant Dr. Fauci immunity in exchange for his testimony?”

With more than 31,000 votes in, 87% responded with “yes.” The other 13% said “no.”

“All right, I’m in the majority. First time in a couple of weeks, I think,” Smerconish said after reading the results.

He then turned to social media reactions to the show. One person asked why Fauci would need “immunity” if he did nothing wrong.

Smerconish argued Fauci needs the extra legal protection because of the president’s knack for targeting political foes. The CNN host added that Trump himself should not have been the target of indictments, as that only helped drive him to win the 2024 presidential election.

Smerconish said:

Legal opponents who have found themselves on the receiving end of a subpoena or an indictment or, you know, fill in the blank, many of them without merit it, at least, you know, many without merit, maybe all without merit, and I made the case at the outset of the program that — you know, President Trump, let me offend all of you. I’ll do this quickly — should not have been indicted four times. He got elected because he was indicted.

Fauci was granted a pardon by former President Joe Biden at the end of his term.

The former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination more than 100 times during an appearance on Capitol Hill Wednesday, where he was grilled by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) but refused to answer a single question.

Paul then vowed to hold a vote next week to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress, which legal experts have said may be tough to have hold up in court.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) insists that Fauci’s use of the Fifth Amendment was “unsupported” because of his pardon and the fact that he provided an opening statement. Fauci used his opening statement to call out Paul’s “obsession” with him, and he then invoked the Fifth Amendment to every question thrown at him.
