‘Where Are You Shopping?’ Fox’s Laura Ingraham Confused by Dr. Oz Claim About Grocery Prices
Fox News host Laura Ingraham was left baffled by Dr. Mehmet Oz’s assessment of the price of a stick of butter, asking the Trump administration official, “Where are you shopping?”
On Monday, President Donald Trump’s administration unveiled changes to hospital price transparency requirements in an attempt to make cost information clearer for patients. Oz, the president’s Medicare and Medicaid administrator, joined The Ingraham Angle later that day, where he was immediately pressed on cost transparency.
“We should know what things cost, okay?” Ingraham made clear. “We wanna know what we’re paying. What the heck is going on, and how can you guys tackle this?”
“Well, at healthcare, we write the prices in invisible ink,” the Trump official explained. “So, you have no idea what things are gonna cost. I brought you something as an example. We went grocery shopping — stick of butter, bag of peanuts. Butter in America, it’s about a buck for a stick like this. If I charge you 10 dollars— ”
“Where are you shopping?” the Fox News host interjected. “It’s not a buck. It’s like four.”
“Well, I just bought this, so it’s close to that,” Oz laughed. “Maybe I got it — maybe it’s going bad.”
“Okay,” Ingraham said. “A Mamdani store you bought it at.”
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has plans to open five city-owned grocery stores by 2029, offering some groceries at prices 30% below typical retail prices.
“Exactly,” the Medicare and Medicaid administrator agreed, before going on with the rest of his metaphor: “So, you buy the stick of butter, and you buy it for the right price. In healthcare, we’re not doing this. This stick of butter could cost anything. You have no idea until after you’ve already made the purchase.”
The exact butter Oz is holding is from Trader Joe’s. Their website lists its cost at $4.99.
