‘What Is Wrong With the Ohio Republican Party?’ S.E. Cupp Slams ‘Disgusting’ Buckeye State GOP

CNN commentator S.E. Cupp blasted prominent Ohio Republicans and wondered aloud why the GOP is producing “disgusting” politicians in the state.

This week,  the campaign of Republican U.S. Senate nominee Vivek Ramaswamy unveiled an ad featuring Donna Arthur, the estranged mother of his Democratic opponent, Amy Acton. In the ad, Arthur calls her daughter a “liar” who is unfit to be in the Senate. However, completely omitted are the reasons for the estrangement.

Acton and her brother, Phillip Stearns, say that when they were children, their mother married a man who abused them and raped Acton when she was between nine and 12 years old. The man, Cledith Arthur, was indicted for rape and skipped town with Donna Arthur while out on bail. Ultimately, a judge granted custody of Acton and Stearns to their biological father. The two have not spoken to their mother since.

Despite strong bipartisan criticism of the ad, some prominent Republicans have defended it, including Vice President JD Vance, who urged fellow Republicans to “stop whining about” it.

On Thursday’s OutFront on CNN, Cupp took Ramaswamy and Vance to task, as well as U.S. Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), who has been accused of domestic violence by his ex-wife. Miller denies the allegations. Cupp also blasted Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who has been accused by former wrestlers at Ohio State of covering up sexual abuse by a team doctor when Jordan coached there. Jordan denies the allegations.

“What is wrong with Ohio GOP?” Cupp asked. “What is wrong with the Ohio Republican Party that it gave us Jim Jordan, JD Vance, Max Miller, Vivek Ramaswamy? What are you guys doing?”

She then turned to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (R), who has called on Ramaswamy to stop running the ad.

“And Mike DeWine, I don’t think, gets any credit today for four days later coming out and saying, ‘He should take down the ad,’ because you know what else he said?” Cupp continued. “‘But I’m still endorsing him. I’m still endorsing the whole ticket.’ This is disgusting. And if I’m an Ohio voter, like deserve better. Demand better. Be a Republican, I get it. I was once one too, but demand Republicans who represent you well, who have character, who have moral clarity, who won’t go out and embarrass you every single day. Can we put a stop to this?”
