‘Wha–Wha-WHAT?!’ Harry Enten Dumbfounded by Senator Tuberville’s Claim About Gas Prices

CNN data analyst Harry Enten offered an incredulous reaction to a response by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) about gas prices.

With the Iran war dragging on, gas prices remain high. On Tuesday, the national average for a gallon was $4.78. Meanwhile, diesel fuel is at a record high. The issue – as well as inflation in general – is poised to be a factor in November’s midterm elections, along with President Donald Trump’s wildly low approval rating.

On Tuesday’s installment of The Source on CNN, host Kaitlan Collins aired a clip of reporter Manu Raju at the Capitol speaking with Tuberville, who is the GOP nominee for governor of Alabama.

“How much is that hurting your constituents right now?” Raju asked Tuberville.

“Oh, it’s– what’s gonna happen is in Alabama, uh, obviously gas prices are high,” the senator began. “They’ve been high before. People will deal with that. They know it’s gonna go up and down… But, you know, our people in Alabama know that, you know, they voted for President Trump. They know he– they gave him the opportunity to go back and uh–”

“They’re willing to pay higher prices, you think?” Raju asked.

“Yeah. Yeah. Sure they are,” Tuberville responded.

Enten offered an exasperated response:

“Wha–wha–what the heck did I just hear?!” he exclaimed. “The president of the United States, his approval rating on gas prices is like 20%. And I don’t just mean like 20%. It is 20%! He has the highest disapproval rating of all-time of any president on gas prices. And in polls where you ask the question, ‘Hey, you know, is the war worth the cost?’ Americans over and over again say no. The senator from Alabama is just making up stuff that is not supported by the polling data.”

Enten went on to say that the Republican majorities in the House and Senate will likely be wiped out if the midterms hinge on the issue of affordability.

“Who’s the 20% that does approve?” Collins asked.

“I think Tommy’s part of it,” Enten quipped.
