WATCH: Border Patrol Agents Forced to Rescue MS NOW Crew After Vehicle Bottoms Out

Border patrol agents were forced to rescue an MS NOW crew after they got stuck while putting together a report near the border.

On the debut of The Assignment on Saturday, Antonia Hylton and crew traveled to the Big Bend region in Texas where some, including once-supporters of President Donald Trump, are protesting eminent domain being used to buy their land to help in the construction of a southern border wall.

Eminent domain allows the government to seize private land for public use as long as what is considered fair compensation is paid.

Hylton reported that residents are also concerned about construction in Big Bend National Park, which has been temporarily halted. Border patrol told MS NOW in a statement that any work done in that area is not physical construction, but “survey and design work,” something The New York Times disputed in their reporting.

Hylton noted the area doesn’t account for a large number of border crossings because of the difficult terrain, which would include a heavy bit of mountain hiking for anyone coming from Mexico.

Hylton said:

I’m in the United States, that is Mexico. If you’re in Mexico and you want to come here to Texas, you would first have to scale that mountain range, which is thousands of feet high. Then you’d have to come down from that mountain range, make your way across the Rio Grande and somehow into Yolanda’s backyard. And still, once you got here, you would be dozens and dozens of miles away from the nearest town center where you could get food, water, fuel, supplies. Oh, and at many points of the year, you’d be doing that in 100 degree heat.

Hylton and her crew experienced the difficult of the terrain firsthand when their vehicle bottomed out and eight border patrol agents had to come “rescue” them. Three of their vehicles also got stuck during the “rescue” mission.

“As the sun went down, our Jeep Wagoneer bottomed out in the desert,” Hylton reported. “Eight border patrol agents in four different trucks came out that night to rescue our crew. Three of their four vehicles got trapped in the process.”
