Trump Praises Musician Who Admitted to Having Relations With Underage Girls: ‘He’s Been a Friend of Mine’

President Donald Trump heaped praise on rocker Ted Nugent at a rally on Monday night in Kansas, where Nugent spoke shortly before the president.

Trump was campaigning in Wichita for Republican Sen. Roger Marshall, who is in an unexpectedly tight race against Democratic pastor Adam Hamilton.

Nugent, 77, urged rally-goers to vote for Marshall.

“I’m not gonna let my beloved United States of America continue down the toilet for my grandkids,” he said, seemingly eliding the fact that Trump has been president for nearly two years since assuming a second term. “It’s a pain in the ass to be in politics.”

In 1981, Nugent released “Jailbait,” a song in which he describes wanting to have sex with a 13-year-old girl. In a 1998 interview with VH1, Nugent admitted to having relations with underage girls.

“I was addicted to girls. It was hopeless. It was beautiful,” he said while claiming to get approval from the children’s parents.

“I got the stamp of approval of their parents,” Nugent said at the time. “I guess they figured better Ted Nugent than some drug-infested punk in high school.”

In 2013, Courtney Love alleged that she performed oral sex on Nugent when she was 14 years old in the late 1970s when Nugent was in his late thirties or early forties. Nugent has said he does not recall such an encounter.

“And I got to watch him speak up here,” Trump said of Nugent at the rally. “He’s pretty good. But he’s been a friend of mine from the beginning. He’s a man that gets it. He’s a guy with common sense. He’s smart as hell, actually. He plays the game. Like, you know, ‘Oh, let’s be country and all.’ But the truth is, he’s country, but he is one smart cookie, and he gets it and understands what’s happening, Ted Nugent.”

In “Jailbait,” Nugent sings, ” Well, I don’t care if you’re just 13. You look too good to be true. I just know that you’re probably clean. There’s one little thing I gotta do to you… It’s quite all right. I asked your momma. Wait a minute, officer; wait a minute, officer. Don’t put those handcuffs on me, what about her? Hey, I’ll share her with you.”
