Trump Dangles $5K Dividend to MAGA Rallygoers – Then Cracks It’s Barely Lunch Money at Mar-a-Lago

President Donald Trump pitched supporters in Georgia on his promised $5,000 dividend if Republicans win the midterms, then cracked that the entire sum would barely buy them a hamburger and dessert at his own private club.

Speaking at a rally in Georgia, Trump again dangled his proposed “Trump dividend” as he warned the country would be “flat broke” if Democrats win Congress, telling supporters that recipients would face one “caveat” – the money must be spent inside the United States.

He then acted out an imaginary couple trying to decide what to do with their windfall.

“You can’t say, ‘Darling, the president just sent us $5,000, let’s take a trip to China and spend our money in China,’” Trump said.

He continued: “Or, ‘I have always wanted to see Japan, let’s go there, darling, I love you so much. Or how about France? It is a lovely place. No riots, no revolutions.’ You know France seems to be so good revolutions, it’s unbelievable. ‘Let’s go to France and join the revolution and spend our $5,000 there. Let’s go anywhere, darling.’ And she will say, ‘No, no, the caveat is you have to spend it in the United States of America.’”

“‘So, let’s go to Miami, darling,’” he riffed as the imaginary wife. “‘Or let’s go to Palm Beach and join the president for lunch at Mar-a-Lago –’”

As the crowd applauded, Trump pivoted to a cutting punchline: “ –where, for $5,000, you will get one hamburger and a small dessert.”

Laughing at his own joke, the crowd cheered and also laughed as Trump immediately added: “I should not say that. It’s probably true!”

Trump first unveiled the $5,000 payment at the Republican midterm convention last month, promising the money to every adult citizen if the GOP retains both chambers of Congress. He has said the cash would have to be spent domestically, although the White House has not explained how such a restriction would work.

The president’s rally speech ranged across immigration, the war with Iran, attacks on Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA), familiar complaints about the 2020 election and the economy, arguing that Democrats had created the country’s cost-of-living problems but that prices were now falling under his administration.

“They used the word first time I heard it, it was a word, you know, made up by the Democrats, affordability,” he said.

For one brief moment in Georgia, however, Trump offered his own affordability warning, if the dividend ever does land in your account don’t expect much for lunch at his place.
