Top GOP Senator Goes On Fox News to Urge Trump to ‘Do More’ To Help Ken Paxton

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) joined Fox News on Tuesday, expressing hope that President Donald Trump will “do more” with his super PAC, MAGA Inc., to help Texas GOP Senate candidate Ken Paxton.

Thune’s urgings, notably, come just weeks after the president refused to back the Senate majority leader for another term, citing his frustrations about the not-yet-passed SAVE America Act.

Fox News’ Martha MacCallum noted on Tuesday’s edition of The Story that MAGA Inc. has more than $400 million on hand, before asking Thune, “Is that money gonna start rolling anytime soon?”

“We certainly hope so,” he responded. “We are certainly hopeful that the president and his team at MAGA Inc. will be engaged in some of these races.”

“Have you talked to the president about that money?” questioned MacCallum.

“We continue to weigh in,” Thune revealed. “I think that they are starting to engage and hopefully will do more as these races start to tighten up.”

MacCallum then asked about the Texas Senate race specifically. Paxton, also the state’s attorney general, is facing Democratic candidate and Texas state Rep. James Talarico. While the president has long backed the scandal-plagued Paxton, Thune actually initially threw his hat in the ring behind Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX).

“I’m hoping the White House will become engaged,” the Senate majority leader said, stressing the race’s importance for Republicans hoping to keep control of the Senate. “Because Texas is such an expensive state, we’re gonna need the president and his team to be engaged there and to be putting resources into that race.”

“Talarico is everywhere,” MacCallum observed. “He’s got $21 million versus Ken Paxton’s, I think, one or two million.”

Not to mention, polling released last week from Texas Southern University shows the Democratic nominee with a solid lead over the Republican in three congressional districts that Trump carried by double digits.

MAGA Inc. isn’t simply sitting on its massive war chest, however. According to The Atlantic, the president has recently decided to use his super PAC’s funds to buy “a series of television advertisements about his own record that will serve as a backdrop to the hundreds of individual House and Senate contests.”

Additionally, the organization spent nearly $800,000 on Sen. Darline Graham’s (R-SC) Republican primary election runoff.
