‘That’s a Serious Question?’ El-Sayed Explains to News Host the Difference Between the President and an Online Streamer

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed explained to a TV news host the difference between President Donald Trump and Twitch streamer Hasan Piker on Thursday night.

El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee, debated Republican and former Rep. Mike Rogers in the race for U.S. Senate in Michigan. Throughout the debate, El-Sayed hammered Rogers for backing Trump, particularly his war on Iran, which has led to high energy prices. The Democrat attempted to portray Rogers as out of touch and accused him of living in Florida and owning two yachts.

After the debate, El-Sayed took questions in the spin room, where NewsNation host Leland Vittert, a former Fox News host, asked the candidate about his association with Piker, with whom El-Sayed had held multiple campaign events. Piker is a leftist online streamer who has praised Mao Zedong and said the U.S. deserved 9/11, although he walked back the latter. El-Sayed has ceased appearing with or talking about Piker, unless asked about him.

“You’ve gotten angry and dismissive of reporters asking about your friendship and campaigning with Hasan Piker, the guy who said America deserved 9/11, praises Stalin,” Vittert began. “Why does Mike Rogers have to answer for Donald Trump if you don’t have to answer for Hasan Piker?”

El-Sayed replied:

That’s a serious question? Well, Donald Trump is the president of the United States, which means he has significant power, including holding the nuclear football. And when he makes war, which he has the power to do, it’s a very different thing than a streamer in California. I’m not sure if that’s clear to you, but like, when it’s the president of the United States, who is literally the most powerful person in the whole world, to
equate the most powerful person in the world with a streamer in California seems to me to be just a little – I’m not gonna use the word – but silly.

Polls have consistently shown El-Sayed leading Rogers, though the Democrat’s leads have mostly been within the surveys’ margins of error.
