Senator Tuberville Forgets Republicans Controlled Congress During Part of Biden Administration
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) confidently asserted that “Democrats were in charge of everything” during his first four years in the Senate, forgetting that Republicans controlled the House for half of those years.
Tuberville, a former college football coach, was elected to the Senate in 2020. During that election cycle, Democrats wrested control of the White House and the Senate from Republicans, while adding some seats to their already existing House majority.
Appearing on Tuesday’s Kudlow on Fox Business, Tuberville was asked about Democrats running on “affordability” in this year’s midterm elections amid high energy and food prices.
“So, I liked the Wall Street Journal editorial today,” Larry Kudlow said. “The affordability Democrats – question mark. You have to be kidding. They’re the ones that are gonna make life more affordable by reducing spending and inflation? Really? What’s the track record there?”
“Larry, my first four years here, Democrats were in charge of everything,” Tuberville claimed. Democrats controlled the White House and both houses of Congress in Tuberville’s first two years in office. In 2022, two years after he was elected, Republicans won the House of Representatives.
“We spent $4 trillion more than we should’ve even thought about spending,” the senator continued. “It’s about the money and putting there that is causing prices to go up. We’re trying to cut back, but the Democrats have no desire to ever cut back on anything in federal government. They wanna keep adding to it.”
At no point did Tuberville mention that federal government spending has increased since Trump re-took office with Republican control of the House and Senate.
Tuberville is no stranger to gaffes, malapropisms, and falsehoods. This summer alone, he has baselessly claimed that “four or five senators” did not “legally win” their elections and Dr. Anthony Fauci “killed nine million people.” The senator also claimed his constituents are willing to pay much higher gas prices as a result of the Iran war. He has also alleged that many commercial airline pilots are part of the furry community. The latter charge prompted Democratic strategist James Carville to conclude about Tuberville, “He’s that dumb.”
