Pro-MAGA Pundit Unloads on Hegseth: Stop Stumping in Iowa and ‘Go Visit the Bedsides’ of Wounded Soldiers

Pro-MAGA pundit Caroline Sunshine tore into Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on CNN Wednesday night, telling him to stop campaigning for Republicans in Iowa or defending flyover stunts and instead visit troops wounded in the Iran war.

Sunshine delivered the broadside during a discussion on CNN NewsNight about turmoil at the Pentagon following a Washington Post report that Hegseth fired Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George shortly after the general was told to stand down on an investigation into an Army helicopter flyover near singer Kid Rock’s home.

The episode came amid a string of high-level departures under Hegseth that have left staffing gaps across the military.

Fellow MAGA pundit Jason Rantz defended Hegseth’s handling of the flyover controversy, arguing that the stunt was “cool” and could help the military’s recruiting efforts, although conceding it may be “not the right thing optic-wise.”

“Right now he’s incredibly popular amongst troops. We see recruitment going up and recruitment has been going up since they took over because of this. We may not like it, but the reality is that’s cool. People look at that and they like that and that’s a recruitment tool,” he said.

“I think it would be great if you could ask Pete Hegseth about this, but unfortunately the Pentagon has not held a press briefing since May 5,” Sunshine cut in.

“And since then, we have found out that we have 774 wounded soldiers as a result of [the Iran] war. And the Pentagon has not come out and answered questions about it, from a president, by the way, who is out there every day taking questions from the press every day on tarmacs here, there. The Pentagon needs to follow that posture,” she said.

She then singled out Hegseth’s August 17 appearance at the Iowa State Fair, where the defense secretary touted his support for Republican Rep. Zach Nunn.

“And Pete needs to stop going to Iowa to campaign for Republican congressmen, and maybe he should go visit the bedsides of those 774 wounded that would be serving the military and the president better than he’s doing right now.”
