‘Minus-25 in North Carolina!’ Morning Joe Crew Floored By New Poll Showing Trump Has Negative Approval Rating in All But 3 States

The Morning Joe crew was left stunned Monday by a new polling projection showing President Donald Trump with an underwater approval rating in 47 states, including by double digits in several key battlegrounds Republicans will be fighting to hold in November.

Host Mika Brzezinski highlighted the stark numbers from The Economist/YouGov projection, which put Trump’s nationwide net approval rating at -26 and showed him in positive territory in just three states.

“Going state by state the data shows widespread dissatisfaction with Trump, even in places that voted for him in 2024,” she said, rattling off the numbers in every state hosting competitive Senate races this year: “In Georgia, Trump’s net approval is -31. In North Carolina, it’s -25! In Maine, Trump’s net approval is -31. In Texas, it is -22! And in Michigan, Trump’s net approval is -27.”

Only Wyoming, at +14, Idaho, at +9, and West Virginia, at +6, registered positive net approval ratings for Trump. And even in those three states, the president’s numbers have dropped drastically — as he won the 2024 election in West Virginia by 36, Idaho by 42 and Wyoming by 45 points.

Turning to co-host Jonathan Lemire, Brzezinski suggested Trump appeared to be “going in one direction” while polling was headed in the opposite direction.

“Well, Mika, my expert analysis on that polling is: it’s real bad,” Lemire replied.

He continued: “None of this is working for the president right now that’s why we have Republicans, you know, really worried about this November, many privately concede that the House [as] all but gone. The Senate feels like a true toss up when a year ago at this time, we would have said Republicans were heavily favored to keep at least the upper chamber, despite, of course, history telling us that the president, his party tends to do poorly in midterms.”

Lemire ran through a list of issues dividing public opinion, including the administration’s tariffs, renewed trade tensions with Canada and the war with Iran, as political liabilities for Trump.

“The Iran war, deeply unpopular, never sold by the president to the American people,” he said. “All it has done is send prices soaring, particularly at the gas pump.”

“And they’ve settled into a plan of economic pressure – maybe that will work and we are seeing some disagreement in Tehran as to how they want to approach the conflict,” he added: “But even if this does work, it’s probably going to be a long time too late to save Republicans, perhaps for this midterms.”

“It seems like… the president is largely detached from a lot of this,” he concluded.
