Maggie Haberman Gives Brutal Assessment of Trump’s Approval Ratings: ‘There Is No Polling Where This President Is Popular’

CNN commentator Maggie Haberman put President Donald Trump’s poll numbers in acutely grim terms on Monday, noting that he is polling poorly across the board.

On Monday’s edition of The Source, host Kaitlan Collins noted Trump’s gambit to hold an unusual midterm convention ahead of November’s elections. Moreover, The Atlantic reported last week that Trump has decided to use his MAGA Inc. super PAC’s funds to buy “a series of television advertisements about his own record that will serve as a backdrop to the hundreds of individual House and Senate contests.”

“Actually, some Republicans aren’t behind it because they think it’s taking them off the campaign trail,” Collins said of the convention.

“Not just off the campaign trail, but also forming fresh ad copy for Democrats to run against them,” Haberman replied. Collins noted that Trump is deeply underwater by double digits in virtually every poll, which is worse than Republicans in general. Collins aired a graphic showing Trump’s net approval rating at -32 percentage points, with the GOP at -21, according to CNN polling.

Haberman responded:

Some of the public polling, I don’t know how much it correlates. It doesn’t entirely correlate with some private polling. But there is no polling where this president is popular. Let’s put it that way. And there is no polling where he is not in trouble on the issue of affordability. I will note that, repeatedly, the word “affordability” was used at his Oval Office event today on healthcare, despite him repeatedly saying it’s a hoax. This is the kind of thing that Republicans who are in these districts that are embattled do not want to be dealing with.

Last week, Trump went on a vicious tirade against Haberman, referring to her as “Maggot Haberman” after she and three of her colleagues at The New York Times reported that Trump will skip a ceremony at Ground Zero on the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The president reportedly wanted to deliver a speech, but the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, which holds the ceremony, has prohibited those since 2012. Haberman and company also reported that Trump plans to attend the Irish Open that weekend.
