Lawrence Jones Confronts Katie Zacharia About Not Telling Trump She Failed the Bar Exam
Fox & Friends co-host Lawrence Jones confronted new White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia on Friday over her failure to tell her new boss, President Donald Trump, that she never passed the bar exam.
In her first week in the role, Zacharia has faced scrutiny from both sides of the aisle over her questionable law background. She earned a law degree from Pepperdine University in 2011, and has previously claimed to be a lawyer.
But a report from The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday revealed she never actually passed the bar exam.
Shortly after marrying her husband, Zacharia moved to China and claimed she practiced law there. According to her, the law degree was enough because “there’s no Chinese bar.”
During a Friday morning interview on Fox & Friends, Lawrence asked Zacharia about her decision to withhold that information from the president.
“You know, Katie, it’s been a tough week for you,” Jones said. “It’s not an easy job to be the press secretary and you never want to be the story, but I have to ask: Do you wish you would have disclosed to the president about the bar and not passing the bar?”
Zacharia suggested that information wasn’t relevant to the job, saying:
Yeah, well, Lawrence, those questions weren’t asked. I’m being hired as White House Press Secretary and not White House counsel. The conversations, and the reason that I was hired, was to represent the president in the press.
Later in the interview, Jones flat-out asked Zacharia whether she still had the president’s “confidence.”
“I-I-I’m standing here and I was able to travel with him through all of the midterm convention — or, excuse me — the midterm rallies, and I hope to be able to build the trust and confidence of everyone around me,” she replied.
