Katie Zacharia Flat Out Says She Courted Press Secretary Gig By Getting On TV When Trump Could See Her
White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia admitted she courted her new administration role by making sure she popped up on Fox News when she knew President Donald Trump would be watching.
Zacharia sat down for an interview with Jack Posobiec for Real America’s Voice and while she denied “lobbying” directly for the administration role, she admitted her Fox appearances acted as something of an audition for the president.
She said:
I want to back up because originally I was getting a many, many inquiries when Caroline Levitt left, do you want to put your name forward, journalists reaching out, reporters reaching out? Do you want put your named forward for this role? And I said, absolutely not. I am not lobbying for this job. I do not want my name anywhere near a journal or any kind of news outlet. I just don’t want any press on this. Why? Because my philosophy is I’m on TV enough where if he sees me and he likes me, then I will be recruited for the job. I do not believe that lobbying for that job would have been successful.
She said she tracked the issues important to Trump (she acts as an advisor to Trump Media) and made sure she’d be on television talking about those issues so the president could see.
Zacharia said:
I wanted to work for it. I wanted audition for it. I think that’s a much better way of encapsulating it. And so I tracked every news hit to be in accordance with what policies he was pushing forward, particularly on Truth Social since I was the senior communications advisor for Trump Media and Technology Group and Truth Social, where I would track what’s important to President Trump. And I’m going to go on the news and talk about it.
“So in a sense, you were already performing the role in a capacity for Truth Social, because, of course, that’s where he puts out all of his statements,” Posobiec noted.
Part of her “audition,” Zacharia explained, was giving “context” to Trump’s relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping as critics were accusing him of being too nice to the communist leader.
“I really wanted to give context for how you do business in China and why President Trump’s approach is actually the effective way to get the deal done rather than being deleterious to the deal,” Zaharia, who worked in China, said. “And he’s actually, by showing deference to Xi Jinping, effectuating his ability to get that deal rather than just kowtowing or showing favor.”
Zacharia was named White House press secretary, replacing Karoline Leavitt, on October 9, and she’s already faced some controversy. Her first press conference on October 13 didn’t go too smooth, with Zacharia facing criticism and tripping over her words multiple times (which she attributes to being tired and up since 3 A.M. that day).
There have also been questions about her whether she actually passed the bar exam. She works as a general counsel for a California political organization and referred to herself as a lawyer. She previously worked briefly in the administration as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security.
