Kash Patel Slams Dem Senator’s ‘Charade of Lies’ in Fiery Clash

FBI Director Kash Patel accused Senator Peter Welch (D-VT) of staging a “charade of lies” Tuesday as a Senate hearing descended into a bitter confrontation over the bureau’s role in November’s midterm elections.

The clash erupted during Patel’s oversight appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where Welch pressed the FBI chief over whether federal agents would be present at polling places on Election Day.

Patel said the FBI has an election crimes community coordinator in each of its field offices, adding: “so you bet we’re going to have them there and manning the polls for election interference matters.”

“Election integrity is of paramount importance,” Patel said. “This FBI’s not going to shy away from this effort.”

Welch seized on the remarks, arguing they appeared to conflict with Patel’s earlier assurances.

“This is existential. You told Mr. [Richard] Blumenthal you weren’t sending FBI agents to election sites and, according to Mr. James, you said ‘the FBI is on the way.’ This is about whether the United States citizens, Republicans, Democrats, independents are the deciders of this election or there’s election interference led by the FBI in the Trump administration,” the Democrat railed. “That’s what this is about.”

“Do you pledge that you will not in any way interfere in the will of the American people when they go to the polls in November?” Welch asked.

“I pledge unequivocally that I will not participate in your charade of lies,” Patel replied.

Welch followed: “Then why are you being such a panderer to President [Donald] Trump, who’s still claiming that he won the 2020 election, and who has said the only way Democrats can win in 2026 is if they cheat? Do you believe that?”

“What I believe in is the rule of law. What I will always believe –” Patel began.

“The rule of law is the president saying in advance it’s been rigged,” Welch interjected.

“Are you done with your campaign ad, by the way?” Patel shot back.

Patel then turned the exchange personal, telling Welch: “I want to know how your wealth increased 4,000% since you became a United States senator, that’s a magic act all Americans should be [aware of].”

The jab prompted applause from a lone member of the public observing the hearing.

“Let’s knock it off,” Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R) said as he restored order only for Welch to pivot to a new line of questioning.
