Joe Scarborough Trolls Vance for ‘Questioning’ Talarico’s Sexuality While Wearing ‘David Bowie’s Eyeliner’

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough mocked Vice President JD Vance for “questioning” Texas Senate candidate James Talarico’s sexuality, claiming the veep was wearing “David Bowie’s eyeliner” and calling the attack “projection central.”

The jab came as the Scarborough jokingly checked in on co-host Willie Geist’s “male ass gazing desk” after President Donald Trump complimented Senator Jon Husted’s (R-OH) physique, admitting having looked at his “ass” and hands Monday during a midterms rally.

While Geist had nothing further to report on the incident, Scarborough pivoted to Vance.

“So, Willie, while we’re still on your beat why don’t we go all the way from Ohio to Alaska and through the magic of television we will now go to a campaign rally in Texas where projection was on full display by a man wearing David Bowie’s eyeliner,” the host quipped.

At the rally, held at the former terminal of Tyler Pounds Regional Airport, Vance spoke from a podium with a U.S. aircraft carrier visible behind him and, after someone in the crowd appeared to shout “I love you,” Vance replied to cheers: “I love you too, sir. In a totally platonic way, to be clear. I’m the vice president, not James Talarico.”

As Geist attempted to relay the story Scarborough began singing “Ziggy Stardust” by late rock legend David Bowie before cutting in: “Let me ask you this!”

Slamming the desk and mocking, he leaned into the bit: “Have you ever known a man to wear eyeliner, Willie? Like we know guys, we’ve hung out with guys. Have you ever seen in locker rooms guys like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna get the eyeliner.’ Well, I mean, nothing wrong with it if that’s your gig, if you’re like Tim [Curry] playing sweet transvestite in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, which, by the way, Tim Curry, which I think is what [the GOP] probably play on a loop, Tim Curry was good.”

“This is all new territory, all new territory for guys like us,” Geist joined in.

Scarborough continued: “For guys like us it’s a strange world. They keep moving the lines and now it’s all right for guys to be wearing eyeliner. Anyway, projection central yesterday!”

“Projection, ugliness, middle school jokes and taunts!” Geist followed. “This is the vice president of the United States in Texas yesterday repeatedly making assertions about the Democratic candidate, James Talarico, and his sexuality.”

Geist rolled back a clip of Vance also quoting past remarks by Talarico saying he “loves” trans children and adding he would “wonder what the internet search history of a man like that looks like.”

“Yeah, well, you also wonder what his search history looks like,” Scarborough quipped.

“That is disgusting,” the host continued, after watching a clip of Vance admitting he didn’t know anything about Talarico’s search history.

“You’re disgusting, because he’s going back to a time five years ago, maybe six years ago, whatever, going back to a time, I think about the same time that J.D. Vance was calling Donald Trump ‘Hitler.’ So if we want to live in that realm, we can live in that realm and we can talk about all the things JD said and his political past about Donald Trump being a Hitler, and how Christians can’t vote for Donald Trump if they’re really Christians. We can talk about that as well.”

He continued: “But even putting all of that aside, we just had the president of the United States obsess over a candidate’s ass, and we just had a vice president wearing David Bowie’s eyeliner actually questioning the sexuality of another man. It is […] always either projection or confession.”

“Let me say, if I were wearing David Bowie’s eyeliner or if my running mate had been like ogling over men’s bodies, I wouldn’t go out the next day and question the sexuality of a man who has a girlfriend,” Scarborough concluded. “It’s really bizarre stuff.”

While Vance has not publicly addressed past internet chatter over whether he wears eyeliner, Elle did ask beauty experts about the vice president’s dark eye look, for those curious.
