James Carville Tells Newsmax Viewers Trump Is ‘More Corrupt Than All Other Administrations… Put Together’
James Carville made a rare appearance on Newsmax, telling the MAGA network’s viewers that President Donald Trump is the most corrupt president in U.S. history – by a long shot.
Carville has been making the rounds on cable news, especially in recent months as the midterm elections draw near. The former Bill Clinton campaign manager has expressed optimism that his party can retake both houses of Congress. On Tuesday, he appeared on The Record, where host Greta Van Susteren asked if his 1992 election maxim, “It’s the economy, stupid,” rings true this cycle.
“Is that what this race is about this year?” she asked.
“Well, it is, but it’s a lot about corruption,” Carville replied before shredding the Trump administration. “We shouldn’t forget that in 1992, the one thing you knew about President George H.W. Bush, he was not corrupt. This is far and away – not the most corrupt administration ever – probably more corrupt than all other administrations that came before it put together. So, I think the corruption issue is hurting the economic issue. And I think both of them are hurting the Republicans’ chances.”
“I think though, you might get a lot of pushback from Republicans on that when they point to the lawfare when President Trump was just getting ready to run for his second term, and all of a sudden he gets indicted,” Van Susteren protested. “Every time he turns around, he’s getting indicted.”
Federally, Trump was indicted for retaining classified documents after leaving office and for attempting to overturn the 2020 election. In Georgia, he was indicted for attempting to overturn the results in that state. And in New York, Trump was convicted on dozens of felony counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments meant to cover up multiple affairs. When Trump became president again, the U.S. Department of Justice withdrew the charges against the defendant, citing standing DOJ policy not to prosecute sitting presidents.
Since retaking office, Trump’s net worth has exploded thanks in large part to his cryptocurrency ventures, particularly World Liberty Financial. In 2025, the president made about $1.4 billion in crypto-related returns.
