Gobsmacked Former Obama Adviser Says ‘I Agree With Every Word That Marjorie Taylor Greene Said’
David Axelrod, who served as a senior adviser to former President Barack Obama, found himself in the “astonishing position” of agreeing with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
A dyed-in-the-wool supporter of President Donald Trump, Greene has made waves in recent months for calling out her own party over the Epstein files, the lack of a Republican healthcare plan, GOP support for Israel and Ukraine, and the ongoing government shutdown. On Wednesday, Greene appeared on NewsNation, where she conducted an autopsy of Tuesday’s elections in which Republicans were handily defeated in several states.
Democrats flipped the Virginia governor’s mansion and expanded their majority in the state’s House of Delegates. They also maintained control of New Jersey’s governorship and held the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. In California, voters approved a ballot measure that would allow the state legislature to redraw congressional districts in a way more favorable to Democrats after Texas enacted a similar initiative for Republicans. And in New York, voters elected a democratic socialist who will be the first Muslim mayor of the city.
On Wednesday’s edition of The Source on CNN, host Kaitlan Collins played a clip of Greene’s assessment.
“I believe the election yesterday was a referendum on not delivering on what November 2024 was about,” Greene said. “It was about America First. It was about [Make America Healthy Again], and it was about cost of living and putting Americans’ issues above everything else. And that has not been the focus for months now.”
After the clip ended, Collins turned to Axelrod and inquired, “What do you make of that, David?”
Axelrod replied:
Well, I’m in the kind of astonishing position of saying, I agree with every word that Marjorie Taylor Greene said. I’ve never said those words here. We’re making news right here on your show, Kaitlan. But that’s absolutely the case. That’s what happened. The fact is, the president got elected, in the main, because people were very unhappy with the economy, and it hasn’t changed for the better.
As he agreed with Greene, fellow panelist and Republican Scott Jennings buried his head in his hands.
Axelrod went on to cite polling showing that most Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, and that this juxtaposes poorly with Trump’s demolition of the East Wing of the White House to make way for a ballroom, as well as his gaudy renovation of the bathroom of the Lincoln Bedroom.
“They know when they try and pay their bills at the end of the month, and they haven’t seen improvement,” he continued. “And they don’t believe the president’s focus has been there. They see him on ballrooms and they see him on journeys overseas, and they see him talking about the Nobel prize, and they see him talking about redoing the bathroom in the Lincoln Bedroom in gold. And they’re saying, ‘What does this have to do with my life?'”
