‘Give Me Something New!’ Fox Guest Scolds Clay Travis Over Trans Athlete Question

Democratic strategist Mike Nellis erupted at Fox News contributor Clay Travis on Friday after Travis responded to his criticism of President Donald Trump by asking, “Should men be able to play in women’s sports?”

The spat came during Friday’s edition of The Story, with Gillian Turner filling in for Martha MacCallum. Nellis, once an adviser for former Vice President Kamala Harris, and Travis, the founder of OutKick, were there to comment on the state of the Democratic Party.

Travis opened the segment by bringing up Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s ties to progressive streamer Hasan Piker, who campaigned with the candidate during the primary and has faced scrutiny over inflammatory remarks, including his 2019 declaration that “America deserved 9/11.” El-Sayed has said he disagrees with Piker on several issues and recently stressed that Piker does not speak for his campaign.

Fed up with Travis’ focus on Piker and his claim that “a huge part of the base of the Democrat Party now is profoundly antisemitic,” Nellis responded, “It’s not true that the majority of Democrats in the party are antisemitic, and I think that’s become the Republican Party’s new favorite talking point to cover up for the fact that Donald Trump doesn’t have any way to end this war in Iran.”

“I think it is true,” Travis interrupted.

“Hey, Clay, I didn’t interrupt you,” Nellis pointed out. “I’d ask that you didn’t interrupt me. Let me talk.”

“Don’t say stupid things, Mike,” Travis warned before Nellis continued:

Republicans want to spend more time talking about a Twitch streamer than they wanna talk about Donald Trump and his policies or what he’s gonna do to help the average American. The economy is an absolute mess right now. The job market is horrible. Inflation is out of control. This war is ridiculous. Donald Trump is stealing billions of dollars, and they want to talk to me about a guy who streams online?

I don’t care. I think some of the things that Hasan has said are offensive. The vast majority of Democratic Party leaders called this stuff out. You guys want to do wall-to-wall coverage talking about this guy because it’s an easy way to scare people into not noticing that Donald Trump is a terrible, lame-duck president, that people are really upset, and his party is barreling towards a midterm loss because the vast majority of Americans are really angry right now.

“Mike’s wrong on pretty much everything,” Travis clapped back. “I’ve got an easy question for you: should men be able to play in women’s sports? Really simple.”

“That’s all Clay’s got,” Nellis noted. “He’s gonna go right back to talking points on social issues so he doesn’t have to talk about the economy.”

“Culturally, this matters,” Travis insisted.

“Clay, what’s the Republican Party’s plan to deal with the affordability crisis?” Nellis questioned.

“I can’t trust you on affordability,” Travis countered.

“Answer me. No,” said Nellis. “I’ve heard your talking points before, Clay. Give me something new! You got anything new?… Is this what they pay you for? To just say the same stuff every week?”

Turner then interjected, cutting off the interview.
