Fox’s Peter Doocy Tells Trump Pal Sean Hannity, ‘We Have To Fact-Check the President Here’

Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy had to correct President Donald Trump on air Thursday, telling his colleague Sean Hannity, “We have to fact-check the president here.”

Doocy made an appearance on Hannity to discuss Trump’s denials of a recent Atlantic report citing two administration officials as saying the White House had directed the Pentagon to draw up plans for renewed strikes against Iran ahead of next month’s midterm elections.

Earlier Thursday on Truth Social, the president announced there will be no “attacking” Iran ahead of the midterms, adding that the two countries are “having productive discussions.”

“We have to fact-check the president here, Sean,” Doocy began. “Because he was telling us for weeks that he did not care about the midterms — Iran was too important. We know that is not true because he is the surrogate for Republicans. He’s out almost every night.”

The senior White House correspondent continued:

Tomorrow, he’s going to deep-blue New York to try to help not only [Republican gubernatorial candidate] Bruce Blakeman but also some Republicans who are in red districts who are having a hard time right now.

On this Iran piece, there was a report that the president was getting briefed about options to strike Iran before the midterms. He came out and said, “That is not true.” We don’t know how seriously he considered the options that were presented to him by the Secretary of War and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, but he says it’s not gonna happen before the [midterms].

We don’t know if that is a head fake to get the Iranians on their heels or if it is an acknowledgment that this war is causing a lot of problems for Republicans in districts where people are really concerned about high prices — high prices that are exacerbated by the war.

But the president is saying that is not gonna happen. They are not gonna go in and try to finish the job before election day, and a lot of people — we have to remember — a lot of people watching, too, have already voted, and are gonna vote tomorrow, and are gonna vote the next day. So, the White House is trying to do things — they’re trying to show other areas that they can try to address affordability.

Doocy then brought up Vice President JD Vance’s Thursday press conference on the administration’s work to fight fraud, noting that the subject is a “political winner,” and referencing Minnesota Republican Senate candidate Michele Tafoya, who “might actually flip that seat, which has been blue for a really long time.”

“But there is not anything that they can do to end the war,” he concluded. “It doesn’t seem like there’s gonna be a deal, and it doesn’t seem like there’s gonna be an annihilation before November 3.”

Hannity, a friend of Trump’s, responded, “Well, Peter, the president does have — he has been very consistent in this part. He used to say, ‘Why would I tell you? I’m not gonna tell you. It’s not to my benefit.’ So, could it be a head fake? Nothing would surprise me with this president. He’s unpredictable, especially on that issue.”
