Fox’s Larry Kudlow Suggests Ted Cruz Announce Presidential Bid in November: ‘You Might Wanna Think About It’

Fox Business host Larry Kudlow gave Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) some campaign advice on Tuesday, suggesting the former presidential contender launch his next bid shortly after November’s midterm elections.

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Cruz has been asking people if they would be interested in working on his 2028 presidential campaign. Cruz has been widely expected to run in 2028, which would almost certainly put him on a collision course with Vice President JD Vance, who is also expected to vie for the Republican nomination. Some also expect Secretary of State Marco Rubio to run in 2028, but he said he does not intend to challenge Vance.

Cruz appeared on Tuesday’s Kudlow, where the host asked about the senator’s ambitions.

“So, Ted Cruz, also running for president, Kudlow said before referencing Cruz’s 2016 GOP primary loss to President Donald Trump. “You came in second back in 2016. A lot of people are talking about it. A lot of people are writing. Actually, President Trump commented favorably about your running, said you were a pretty smart guy. Of course you’re a pretty smart guy. So, you gonna make a run?”

“So, what I will say is there will be plenty of time to have that conversation after the midterms,” the senator replied. “We’re less than 60 days out from the midterms, so my focus– if we lose the House and Senate, all the legislative progress we have grinds to a halt, and it is two years of warfare against President Trump and his agenda.”

Kudlow responded by noting that Trump declared his 2024 candidacy right after the 2022 midterms in November.

“One of the things that President Trump did in the last go-around, right after the midterms, he declared his candidacy,” Kudlow said. “And that had a huge, huge impact. I’m just putting it out there. You might wanna think about it. I mean, right after he did that, a lot of people scratched their heads, and it turns out that was a close outbid. It really was.”

Last week, a reporter asked Vance if he would support a Cruz 2028 run.

“That’s an innovative way to ask the question,” Vance replied. “But I’m still not gonna take the bait.”
