Fox’s Bret Baier Covers Bombshell Trump Jr. Russian Wedding Gift Story: ‘Has There Been a Response?’

Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier asked correspondent Lucas Tomlinson about the stunning report on Monday that a Putin-linked Russian oligarch helped pay for Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding celebration.

According to a SnapStream search of cable news transcripts, Baier’s coverage of the story was the only mention it received on Fox News, while it received regular coverage throughout the day on CNN and MS NOW.

“Lucas, another story. There was a report about Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding back in May, and questions about foreign influence, as a Russian businessman with close ties to Vladimir Putin helped pay for the celebration in the Bahamas. Has there been a response from the White House or from the newlyweds?” Baier asked.

“There has Bret. In a new post on Instagram, Bettina Trump says the party was planned well in advance of the wedding and was never intended to be a wedding weekend,” Tomlinson replied, adding:

She thanked her friend, Umar Kremlev, who had made a fortune in Russian-backed gambling and commercial businesses. He’s sanctioned by Ukraine, and he reportedly spent hundreds of billions — millions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of dollars — on the two-night wedding celebration in the Bahamas.

And Bettina put out, quote, “Friendship doesn’t require a political motive. Generosity doesn’t automatically come with an agenda, and sometimes a wedding gift is simply a wedding gift.” And the White House referred us to this post from Bettina.

“I have no idea who Umar is, never heard of him, and he didn’t pay for Don and Bettina’s wedding, which took place at a totally different location, and on a different day,” Trump later said in a statement to The New York Times, adding, “It was an ‘after-party’ given in their honor. Not a big deal!”
