Fox Weather Reporter Nearly Gets Swept Away By Ocean Wave While Covering Hurricane in Hawaii

Fox Weather storm specialist Mike Seidel got up close and personal with the power of Hurricane Lowell while covering the storm in Hawaii, nearly getting knocked over by a powerful ocean wave that suddenly swept through.

The storm battered Hawaii’s western islands of Kaua’i and O’ahu with heavy rain, storm surges, and high winds Monday evening through Tuesday morning. Wind gusts peaked at over 80 mph and a top gust of 92 mph, according to a report by Fox Weather.

In the aftermath of the hurricane, more than 60,000 customers had lost power, and “[n]early 90% of Kaua’i is still in the dark,” the report added.

Early Tuesday, Seidel was reporting on the storm from Kaua’i and just before his live broadcast was about to start, a massive ocean wave slammed into him and his cameraman.

Fox Weather shared the video, noting that the wave almost knocked Seidel and his colleague “to the ground.”

Thankfully, both were fine and recovered their footing, the cameraman giving Seidel a reassuring thumbs up afterwards.

“Yeah, we’re ok!” Seidel said after the wave had passed.

Seidel shared the video himself, writing, “That’s what happens when you put your back at the ocean for even a few seconds!”
